The 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, in a 2-1 decision, granted the National Football Leagues’ request for a temporary stay of U.S. District Court Judge Susan Nelson’s injunction order lifting the lockout. The NFL and the Owners will request for a permanent stay that would last through the appeal process. This Appeals Court ruling came on the same day players were allowed to return to their teams’ facilities for the first time since the lockout began this past n March.
In response to the “win” from the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals, the NFL reinitiated the lockout, stating, “Teams have been told that the prior lockout rules are reinstated effective immediately.”
Players argued against a stay, stating that since players’ careers are so short in length, they are at far more risk when business is stalled.
