The NFL’s Tribute to the Anniversary of 9/11

The 2011 National Football League season will kick-off on September 8, 2011, with a Thursday Night Game between the New Orleans Saints and the Green Bay Packers.

The NFL will pay tribute to the tragedy of September 11, 2001, by having the New York Football Giants play the Washington Redskins on September 11, 2011 – Appropriate, since New York City and Washington D.C. are the locations where the two horrific events occurred.

There was some indication that the Giants would play the Jets on the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks, but a source said “given the complexities of the schedule, the league could not make that game work for the opener”.

It is great that the National Football League revealed its 2011 schedule, but has anyone told them, there is no agreement with the Players to actually have a season.
